* PHPWiki has a nasty security hole and had to reinstall the server to be sure all the nasties are gone
* To upgrade to the latest version of PHPWiki requires this same process ( copy and paste ) as the syntax is different, ie no upgrade script.
* Since the opportunity arises this will also be an upgrade to MediaWiki; it powers wikipedia.org and is unquestionably more stable and supported because of this. It also supports better spam prevention due to logins.
* Also a few people had commented that the wiki was a mess and it was getting a bit that way so this is a chance to clean it up.
* I have paid a developer to write a [http://www.webforce.co.nz/phpwiki2mediawiki/ phpwiki 2 mediawiki syntax converter]. It's not perfect and you will need to clean up the output. ( if you are good at php and regex and want to try to make it work better, email me! )
* The list of old pages and a link to their old content and an automatically converted new page( that will need fixing ) is at [http://www.knoppix.net/oldwiki/ www.knoppix.net/oldwiki/]
* The list of new pages is [[Special:Allpages]]
* The page names will be different. E.g. KnoppixCustomisations will become [[Knoppix Customisations]]
* The syntax of mediawiki is different from phpwiki. For help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:How_to_edit_a_page
* Obviously some of the pages do not need to be converted, e.g. the PHPwiki specific pages, or plugin pages.
* Keep the list below in alphabetical order and sign your name by typing <nowiki>--~~~~</nowiki> (see [[Main Page]] for the lists)

We'll do the homepage of the wiki last, once all the pages are done.

Hd Install HowTo

You CAN install newer versions of Knoppix on harddisk, if you wish,
though installation is not required for productive use. If you want to
do this, you should just make sure there is some empty space on your
harddrive so you can create at least 2 Linux partitions, one for the
System (for Knoppix, minimal approx. 3 GB) and about minimal 200MB for [http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_memory Swap] during the
installation process. It is VERY important that the swap space partition is of type "Linux Swap space" (or equivelent"). A partitioning program is integrated in the knoppix-installer.

It´s recommend to use 5 GB for root partition and 400 MB for swap partition.

A: Some chipsets and/or harddiscs are broken or buggy. Using DMA would cause problems on such systems. If your system works properly with DMA, you can enable it with it by typing "/sbin/hdparm -c3 -d1 -m16 -k1 /dev/hda" or by editing the "/etc/init.d/bootmisc.sh" startup script and uncommenting the hdparm -qd1 /dev/hda line to have it permanently on at reboot, if the line is not there add it.

A cleaner way to do it requires installing the hdparm package (use the command "apt-get install hdparm" to do this) and edit
the file "/etc/hdparm.conf".

A: There is the "[[Poor Mans Install]]", where you can copy some files from the CD to the harddisk. It will run like from CD, but the CDROM is free for other use and its a bit faster. Although you'll need a bootfloppy or change the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bios Bios] options to boot first the hard disk with Knoppix (i.e. the second hard disk or d: unit).

A: Yes, you can install Knoppix in 700 megs instead of 2.3 gigs for the real install, but it will run as if it were from a physical CD, so you cannot install anything, unless you do a 'normal' install. Each time you boot your hardware will need to be redetected. This is not for novices. For more information see the HOWTO for the [[Hd Based HowTo]] hard drive based install.
